| Born in Denmark in 1952 and raised in Canada, the well-travelled Allan Madsen now lives and works in the Spanish province of Murcia. His first artistic incarnation was as a musician specialising in lute music of the Renaissance era; this he studied and taught in London from 1971-1981. It was during this period that he also began to study drawing. Deciding to pursue the path of visual arts, he based himself in Paris for the next seven years whilst also working in Italy and Spain before relocating to Sweden in the late 1980s. Having established his home in Spain, Allan’s work came under the influence of the light and culture of his adopted land. There is a distinctly hispanic sensuality to his work. In his oils this is conveyed by the texture which is akin to tooled leather; in his watercolours by a lightness of touch which is truly ethereal. His distinctive style has earned him a strong international reputation as witnessed by his having exhibited extensively throughout Europe and North America.
