Kevin Gaines
Kevin Gaines is a contemporary Irish sculptor from Dublin who specialises in abstract sculpture in wood and bronze. Largely a self-taught artist, his first introduction to sculpture came in his early twenties, when he worked with Russian sculptor, Lev Neznansky, and started carving in wood. He subsequentley worked with Irish sculptor, Cathy Carmen in Dublin, and it was during this period that he learned the skills of mould making and working with bronze. His bronze sculptures are casts of pieces originally carved by hand in wood and can be characterised by fluid, precisely finished forms that often evoke the sculptures of artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore.
