Martin Mooney

Martin Mooney, born in Belfast in 1960, is one of the most successful Irish artists of his generation. His exquisite still life paintings are noted for their realist style, and attention to detail and surface texture. Coupled with his use of subtle, subdued lighting effects, Martin Mooney's paintings evoke the still life paintings of the 17th & 18th century Dutch and Flemish masters. His landscape paintings are often painted en plein air, which gives them a less polished and more impressionistic finish than his still life paintings, as he attempts to capture the fleeting effects of light and shadow, on the varied landscape of his native Donegal, Spain, where he lived for a number of years or the rolling hills and picturesque towns of Tuscany, where he often spends time during the Summer. Martin Mooney's paintings have won international acclaim, most notably from H.R.H. the Prince of Wales who invited Martin to accompany him, as an official artist on the royal tour of the Baltic States in 2001 and again in 2003 for the royal tour of Russia. His paintings are now housed in many private and public art collections both in Ireland and internationally, including the art collections of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, the Yale Centre for British Art, The Paul Mellon Collection, The British Government Art Collection, The Durban Museum, Harvard University, The Merrion Hotel Collection, Dublin and the Delta Airlines Collection, amongst many others.
