Ludovico Diaz de Santillana was the son in Law of the famous Italian glass designer, Paolo Venini, whose business, Venini & Co. was founded in 1925. Ludovico's background was in architecture, which he studied in Venice, where he met and married Anna Venini. After the death of his father in law in 1959, Ludovico took over the company, and brought in many young artists and designers, from both Italy and abroad, to expand the range of designs on offer, and to increase the international reputation of the company. Some of the major artists and designers that worked at Venini & Co. include Carlo Scarpa, Sandro Chia, Gio Ponti, Richard Marquis, Dale Chihuly and Toots Zinsky.
