Peter Killeen was born in Dublin in 1977, and started out as a sculptor by working for the highly regarded Irish Art foundry Cast in 1996. It was here that Peter was first introduced to the cire perdue (lost wax) method of bronze casting, and subsequently began casting his own work. In 2003, he travelled to Australia to work with the Australian Bronze Sculpture House in Sydney. During his three years in Sydney, he honed his skills as a sculptor, eventually becoming head of bronze casting at the foundry.
After years of working alongside some of Ireland’s leading sculptors, Peter now works part-time with Cast Foundry in Dublin, while also creating his own pieces. He continues to be hands on at every stage of the process of transforming his work, from clay model, to wax cast, to the final finished bronze, and his careful attention to detail at each stage has been greatly informed by the expertise he has gained through his background in foundry work.
Peter’s sculptures are inspired by the beauty and simplicity he finds in the materials in front of him and a keen interest in Irish nature and wildlife. His bronze sculpture has been exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Oireachtas Exhibition, The Wexford Opera Festival and Sculpture in Context at the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin.
His sculpture is included in many public and private collections in Ireland and in many collections internationally including Japan, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
