Tim Woolcock
"Wicklow Mountains"

Born in Lancashire, in 1952, Tim Woolcock is a modern British painter whose paintings can be described as being abstract with a geometrical element. His work is very much in the tradition of the British modernist painters of the St. Ives School, evoking paintings by artists such as Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron & Ivon Hitchens. While, Tim's paintings are fundamentally abstract, they are always underpinned by the landscape of his own locale and his personal experience of nature, whether that of the West Country in England where he grew up or the landscape of Ireland, where he regularly spends his time. There is a Zen-like stillness and a meditative quality to Tim Woolcock's paintings. Writing in The London Times, art critic Joanna Pitman says: "The scale and proportions of his work present an internal harmony, and this mood is completed in the delicate balance between form and the exquisite colours he uses. We see lyrical lines and geometric fragmented shapes...Woolcock has seemed to show an interest in Cubism and a wonderful sense of contour and drama. There is a meditative serenity in his colour variations which perhaps reflects the contemplative personality of Woolcock himself...his landscapes evoke the beauty and grandeur of the Irish  and English Countryside.”
